Los Tubos, Manatí

 

Los Tubos is one of the most well-known beaches on Puerto Rico’s north coast,

located in Manatí just minutes from Mar Chiquita. Known for its strong waves, long stretch of sand, and open coastline, it’s a favorite for surfers, locals, and anyone looking for a more raw, high-energy beach experience.

Unlike protected coves like Mar Chiquita, Los Tubos is fully exposed to the Atlantic, which means constant wave action, changing conditions, and a much more powerful ocean presence. It’s not a “calm swim” beach — it’s a place to feel the energy of the ocean.

​What to Expect

This is a wide, open beach with plenty of space to spread out. You’ll walk from the parking area directly onto sand, with waves usually rolling in non-stop.

The surf here can be strong and unpredictable. On calmer days, you might be able to wade or bodyboard, but most of the time it’s better suited for experienced swimmers or surfers.

There are often locals, music, and activity — especially on weekends. The vibe is more social and energetic compared to quieter nearby beaches.

Pro Tip

If you want a quieter experience, go early in the morning — it’s way more peaceful before the crowds roll in. By midday and especially afternoons, it turns into more of a social beach with music and groups hanging out.

Also, if the water looks rough (it often is), don’t push it. This is a beach to respect — enjoy it from the sand or stay close to shore unless you really know the ocean.
