Cueva de las Golondrinas, Manati
Secluded coastal cave, rugged cliffside hiking, and one of the most unique nature spots on Puerto Rico’s north coast.
Cueva de las Golondrinas is one of those spots most people drive right past without ever knowing what’s there. Tucked along the rocky coastline in Arecibo, it’s a raw, natural stretch of cliffs, trails, and ocean views that leads to a hidden cave and a quiet, tucked-away beach.
The highlight is the cave itself — a coastal opening carved into the rock where birds (golondrinas) constantly fly in and out, creating a unique, almost surreal scene. It’s not a built-out attraction. No signs, no setup — just nature, terrain, and the kind of place you explore on your own.
What to Expect
This isn’t a casual beach stop — it’s more of a coastal hike with a reward at the end.
You’ll walk along uneven limestone, follow natural paths through brush and cliff edges, and eventually reach the cave and small beach area below. The terrain can be sharp, rocky, and slippery in spots, especially near the water.
Expect:
Rugged coastal hiking
Narrow paths and rock scrambling
Strong ocean conditions depending on the day
A quiet, uncrowded environment
The cave itself is active with birds flying through it, especially during calmer parts of the day. It’s one of those places where you just stop for a second and take it in.

Pro Tip
The best part of this spot isn’t just the cave — it’s the entire stretch of coastline getting there. Take your time walking the cliffs and exploring the trails. You’ll find different vantage points, hidden angles, and quieter spots depending on how far you go.
If the ocean looks rough, respect it. This is a place to enjoy, not push limits.
