Zenen Pizza, Arecibo

Award-winning Neapolitan-style pizza, coastal kiosk-lot vibes, and one of the most unique food stops along Puerto Rico’s north coast.

This is the kind of place people accidentally spend their entire evening at!

Zenen Pizza has become one of the standout food destinations along Puerto Rico’s north coast — not just because of the pizza itself, but because of the entire atmosphere surrounding it.

Located directly off Route 681 in Arecibo, the setup feels authentically coastal in the best way possible: outdoor seating, ocean air, people hanging around the kiosk lot, music playing in the background, and fresh pizzas constantly coming out of the oven while lines build throughout the evening.

Behind it all is chef and pizzaiolo Ángel Zenen, whose work helped bring internationally recognized Neapolitan pizza-making techniques to Puerto Rico. Zenen became one of the first pizza makers in the Caribbean to receive certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) — the organization in Naples, Italy dedicated to preserving authentic Neapolitan pizza traditions.

That certification is highly respected in the pizza world and focuses on everything from dough preparation and fermentation to ingredients and cooking techniques.

The result is a place that somehow combines authentic Naples-style pizza culture with Puerto Rico’s relaxed beach-town energy.

What to Expect

Expect a casual outdoor atmosphere with:

  • Open-air seating

  • Kiosk-lot energy directly off 681

  • Weekend crowds

  • Music and social atmosphere

  • Longer waits during peak hours

  • Fresh pizzas made one at a time

This isn’t fast food. People come knowing there may be lines, slower service, and longer waits — but that’s part of the experience.

The atmosphere feels more like a local hangout than a traditional restaurant. People settle in, talk, wait for pizzas together, and spend time enjoying the night instead of rushing through dinner.

Why it's special

  • Led by award-recognized pizzaiolo Ángel Zenen

  • One of the first AVPN-certified Neapolitan pizza spots in the Caribbean

  • Authentic wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizza techniques

  • Outdoor coastal kiosk-lot atmosphere directly off Route 681

  • Combines high-level pizza craftsmanship with laid-back beach-town energy

  • One of the most talked-about pizza spots on Puerto Rico’s north coast

Food

Zenen focuses on authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas built around simplicity, technique, and quality ingredients rather than oversized menus or gimmicks.

Expect:

  • Wood-fired style pizzas

  • Traditional Naples-inspired techniques

  • Thin crust with authentic texture and char

  • High-quality ingredients

  • Classic combinations done extremely well

This is the kind of place pizza people specifically seek out.

Tips

  • Open weekends only

  • Expect lines and wait times during busy hours

  • Go earlier in the evening if possible

  • Casual atmosphere — beachwear fits right in

  • Great stop after exploring nearby beaches and hotspots

  • Bring patience during peak hours

Pro Tip

The longer waits are part of the experience here. People come for the pizza, but stay because of the atmosphere — outdoor tables, music, the kiosk-lot setting, and everyone hanging around waiting for fresh pies coming out one at a time.

The best way to do Zenen is slowly: beach during the day, pizza later, then settle into the vibe while the evening builds around you.

Once the line starts forming, it usually means you picked the right place.
