La Poza del Obispo, Arecibo
A natural rock-protected pool with calm water, powerful waves just beyond, and one of the most unique swim spots on the north coast.
La Poza del Obispo is one of Arecibo’s most popular beaches, known for its naturally protected swimming area formed by rock formations just offshore. While the Atlantic crashes hard against the outer rocks, the inside pool stays relatively calm, creating a rare combination of safe swimming and dramatic ocean views.
It’s a favorite for both locals and visitors — offering a mix of relaxation, scenery, and easy access.
What to Expect
You’ll park close and walk a short distance to the sand. The beach opens up to a protected cove where waves break outside the rock barrier but leave the inner water much calmer.
Conditions can still change depending on surf, so always check the water before going in. On calmer days, it’s one of the better swimming spots on this stretch of coast.
Expect people — especially on weekends — but there’s usually space to spread out.
